There are seven sacraments, although the first two – Baptism and the Mass – are the most important and come from direct commands of Jesus.

A sacrament is where something material and every day (water, oil, bread and wine) is used by God to bring great blessing and grace. An old definition is that a sacrament is ‘an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.’
