| St Margarets Church has a long tradition of choral music and is fortunate to have a small but committed four-part choir.
The Liturgy of the Mass in an Anglo-Catholic Church is central to the worship and music has always played a key role in the principal Sunday services.
It is, first and foremost the responsibility of the choir to support the congregation in the singing of hymns, congregational settings of the service and responsorial psalms.
The choir are afforded the opportunity to sing occasional mass settings. Suitable anthems and motets are sung regularly.
The Choir practices every Friday evening at 7.30 and would always welcome new members. A music group is sometimes used for Parade services and modern choruses are used accompanied by Piano and a variety of other instruments.
The Organ
The pipe organ by John Compton is above the West Gallery and was installed in 1934. It has a detached console situated on the south side of the Gallery. The organ is built on the extension principal and has electro pneumatic action with four ranks of enclosed pipes. It is a very well made instrument capable of a surprisingly wide range of tone and dynamic and very well suited to accompanying the liturgy.
