Who is it for?
Anyone who is interested in learning more about, sharing and deepening their Christian faith.

What does the group do?
We plan our programme around the interests and needs of the group members. Over the past year these have included Bible studies, an exploration of the role of some of the women in the Old and New Testaments, talking about the hymns that speak to us, looking again at the parable of the prodigal son in the light of Rembrandt’s painting on the subject. From time to time, we spend a day away from Leigh, as a group or together with other members of the congregation, to be quiet before God and to refresh our faith.

If I just turned up to a meeting, what might I find?
Firstly, you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and refreshments in the home of a group member. When everyone has arrived, the more formal part of the meeting usually begins with a prayer. Depending on the evening’s topic there may be an audio tape to listen to, a video to watch or some material to read. Sometimes the meeting takes the form of a meditation. From time to time the meeting is lead by one of the clergy, a lay reader or another guest. A significant amount of time in most meetings is given over to informal discussion with laughter included!

If I wanted to join the Emmaus Group, what would be involved?
There is no formal commitment to the group; members of the group come to meetings as and when they are able. Although we aim to be at the meetings, we all have times when something else takes priority on a Thursday evening. Everyone is welcome to see whether Emmaus is for them.
